Bridge to Independence

Kids to Love is transforming the lives of foster youth aging out of care through a holistic approach that meets both immediate needs and long-term goals.

Our Bridge to Independence program is designed to walk alongside these young adults as they transition into adulthood, providing the stability, support, and encouragement they need to thrive. By addressing the whole person, we help equip them for lasting independence and success.

Program services include housing, workforce training, career readiness, food and transportation support, mentorship, and trauma-focused therapies.

The need is urgent. According to the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s 2023 KIDS COUNT report, 70% of youth aging out of foster care rely on government assistance within four years, 25% do not complete high school, only 12% earn a college degree, and 50% are unemployed by age 24.

These statistics do not define what is possible. They reveal why holistic, intentional support matters so deeply.

Our Services

Housing: The Whitaker Cottage Community is a community for young women who need a place to live while beginning their career or continuing their education. Located in Madison County, each Cottage Community resident has their own cottage with everything they need, taking away the stress of figuring out their living situation and allowing them to focus on their road to independence.

Scholarships: We are determined to break the cycle of poverty that many children in foster care are a part of, and a big part of that is making sure those children get an education. Kids to Love awards scholarships for certification training, trade schools and two- and four-year degrees.

Workforce Training: KTECH, a workforce development initiative of Kids to Love, trains students for careers in manufacturing. Students learn Mechatronics, Robotics, and Soldering as well as the ability to gain a variety of Snap-on Tools certifications.

Therapy: The Smith Family Wellness Center is home to therapists specialized in helping clients recover from trauma and live healthy and productive lives.

Kids to Love also can help in other areas:

  • Career Readiness
  • Transportation
  • Mentorship
