Kids to Love Celebrates Opening of Whitaker Cottage Community
09/29/2022

This week the Kids to Love Foundation celebrated a milestone in its goal of making sure children in foster care have everything they need to succeed in life.
Kids to Love held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the Whitaker Cottage Community, five new cottages that will be homes for young ladies.

The ribbon cutting was part of a donor appreciation event being held at the Whitaker Cottage Community, located on the site of Davidson Farms, Kids to Love’s foster home for girls ages 7-19.
Ground was broken on the cottages in September 2020. Now two years later, the five cottages located on Isenberg Way are fully furnished and ready for young women to move in and start the next phase of their lives.
Children in foster care in Alabama are released from care after age 19, and many do not have resources to assist them once they age out. Statistics show many foster youth are homeless, in prison or dead within two years of leaving the system. The Whitaker Cottage Community will allow young ladies to continue their education or begin a career while also having the support of Kids to Love’s team of mentors.
“These cottages fill a critical gap in the lives of children who would otherwise be left on their own once they turn 20,” said Kids to Love Founder and CEO Lee Marshall. “We promise three things when girls come to Davidson Farms: Hope, Healing and Home. That doesn’t stop when they reach a certain age.”
Each cottage has 480 square feet of living space and has a full kitchen, bathroom, washer and dryer and living area. The cottage interiors were designed and decorated by Haley’s Interiors and Design.
Legacy Donors for the Cottage Community are Beth & Devin Whitaker, Alpha Foundation, Hank Isenberg, Brooks Gray Foundation, Patti & John Gipson, Kelly & Billy Greenhaw, IronMountain Solutions, Margarita Society, Courtney & Matt Curtis, Senator Sam Givhan, and Ann & William Speck.
Signature Donors are Haley’s Flooring & Interiors, Greene Street Market at Nativity, The Rock Family Worship Center, Nehemiah Project Ministries, All His, LLC; Cove Church, Rosé Society, Jane K. Lowe Foundation, The Caring Foundation, Bowers Plumbing, Wilson Lumber, and South Huntsville Optimist Club.
The paths to each cottage are paved with bricks that have been personalized by donors. Bricks and pavers can be ordered and personalized on the Whitaker Cottage Community section of the Kids to Love website.
In addition to Davidson Farms and the Whitaker Cottage Community, Kids to Love is also a licensed Child Placing Agency in the state of Alabama and operates multiple programs in support of foster families and the children in their care. For more information, visit our website at kidstolove.org.
