The Adoption FAQ

For Birth Parents

Why is adoption the best option for my child?

There are many factors to consider when choosing this option for your child. We encourage you to speak with one of our adoption specialists to discuss your life situation and make the best choice for you and your child.

What is the process like once I choose adoption for my child?

You’ll meet with one of our adoption specialists who will gather information about you; your health history, educational history, your talents, and your physical characteristics. You’ll be presented with information on families who are approved to adopt a child and begin the process of choosing the best family to adopt your child. Your adoption specialist will connect you with the adoptive family you select and you’ll be able to communicate with them by phone, text, email, or meet them in person. Our adoption specialist will be there to support you throughout the process of making your decision, selecting a family, and through the birth of your child.

Is there any financial assistance available to help me through my pregnancy?

Yes, there are state laws that allow for financial assistance to birth mothers throughout her pregnancy.

What if I make a decision to place my child for adoption once I go into labor or just after delivery of the baby?

Our adoption specialist can assist you with your decision at any time during your pregnancy. We have adoptive families available who can arrive at the hospital within hours of the delivery of your baby.

Can I maintain contact with the adoptive family and get updates on my child after the adoption?

Yes, our adoption specialist will develop an adoption plan between you and the family you select about the openness of the adoption and future contact and updates.

What if I have toddlers or older children that I would like to consider an adoption plan for? Do you have families that will adopt older children?

Yes, we have approved families that are interested in adopting children who are not infants.

What level is the birth father involved in this decision?

We encourage birth fathers to be a part of the entire adoption plan. If the birth father is not a participant in the process, we have an attorney that can guide you in making decisions about how to proceed with your adoption plan.

Is counseling available to me to help me throughout the decision making process, pregnancy, delivery, and after the adoption placement?

Yes, we have a Wellness Center with therapist on staff who provide counseling for birth parents throughout the adoption process.

For Adoptive Parents

What type adoption placements does your agency complete?

We provide domestic adoption services. We complete infant, toddler, and older child adoptions.

How long does it take to be matched with a birth mother and have a child placed in our home?

The length of time depends on your adoption preferences. The more open you are to factors surrounding the child and the openness of the adoption play a role in the length of time it will take for you to be chosen by a birth parent.

What are your agency’s criteria for adoptive parents?

You must be:

  • 25 years of age
  • Pass a background check
  • Be financially stable
  • Married at least 3 years (if married applicant)
  • Have an approved home study

What is the financial cost to adopt through your agency?

Our agency is a nonprofit organization that values family. It is important to our agency to ensure that children are placed with loving families where the children will be safe and secure. Our adoption fees are minimal for this reason. Total cost is approximately $15,000 – $20,000.

What is the process for being presented to and selected by a birth parent?

Your adoption profile will be shared with birth parents when your adoption criteria meet the birth parents characteristics. If a birth parent is interested in speaking with you, and you with them, our adoption specialist will facilitate conversation between you. Communication can be through phone calls, texts, email, or in person visits.

What happens if the birth mother changes her mind once we’ve been matched?

While this is a possibility in an adoption plan, we provide counseling to birth parents throughout the adoption process. If the birth parent changes her mind, we will immediately make your adoption profile available for consideration.
