Kids to Love Honored with Official Day as Leaders Proclaim Foster Care Awareness Month
05/01/2026

Kids to Love welcomed community leaders Friday morning to the Kids to Love Center as they proclaimed May as Foster Care Awareness Month in Madison County and recognized the organization’s ongoing work on behalf of children in foster care.
Madison County Commission Chairman Rex Vaughn, Madison Mayor Ranae Bartlett, and Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle signed the proclamation, showing a shared commitment to raising awareness and supporting children and families connected to foster care.
“I think it’s just another point in time that we all need to be aware of the importance in foster care, and that we don’t shortchange that effort,” said Madison County Commission Chairman Rex Vaughn.
Several other community leaders also attended the celebration, including Congressman Barry Moore and State Sen. Sam Givhan.

Leaders also surprised Kids to Love by declaring the day as Kids to Love Day, recognizing the organization’s impact across North Alabama and the lives changed through its programs and services.
Kids to Love began by meeting the immediate needs of children entering foster care and has grown into a comprehensive nonprofit serving children, foster families, and young adults aging out of care through advocacy, placement services, education support, housing, trauma informed therapy, and other life-changing resources.
“The work we do matters,” said Lee Marshall, Founder and CEO of Kids to Love. “To have local leadership and even state and federal delegates to come and give the attention foster care needs, to say what we do and serving children in foster care matters in this community … we’re excited to have May 1st now as Kids to Love Day.
“We’re real excited by the attention it’s bringing, and our hope with that is to educate our community more, share more of the needs of our foster families, and the work that we get to do to meet children in foster care where they are.”
Kids to Love thanks Mayor Bartlett, Chairman Vaughn, Mayor Battle, and all of the other leaders who continue to champion children in foster care and shine a light on the ongoing need for support, awareness, and hope throughout the month of May and beyond.
